Children of ISKCON v. ISKCON: the gurukula abuse lawsuits

In 2000 former pupils of ISKCON's boarding schools sued ISKCON, its temple corporations, the executors of Prabhupada's estate and current and former members of its Governing Body Commission over abuse at the schools from 1972 to 1990. The federal racketeering suit was dismissed in 2001 without any ruling on the abuse; the claims were refiled in Texas state court, and in 2002 eleven ISKCON temples and corporations filed for Chapter 11. Their reorganization plans settled the claims in 2005 with a $9.5 million fund for former pupils, and ISKCON apologised.
