Letter from Bhavananda Goswami to Tamal Krishna Maharaja, Chairman of the ISKCON Governing Body Commission, 8 September 1986

Bhavananda Goswami

Letter on the letterhead of ISKCON's New Govardhana farm community (Murwillumbah, New South Wales) to the GBC chairman, Tamal Krishna Maharaja, "in regards to the recommendations of the North American GBC comittee that I suspend my GBC and Guru functions". He offers to resign his North American GBC zonal duties and asks for "a leave of absence from any GBC and initiating duties until the Mayapur festival 1989" (year as typed); proposes Balarama Dasa as ad-hoc assistant GBC representative for Australasia; and asks that the initiations planned for the zone's October festival go ahead, because "the full body of the GBC resolved that I would be free to resume that duty" in October 1986. Copy as published in Nori Muster's Betrayal Files; nothing is redacted.

         Pear Tamal Krishna Maharaj:

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
T am writing this letter to you in regards to the recommendations of the
North American GBC comittee that I suspend my CBC and Guru functions,
                                                           leaders of my zones,

duties until the Mayapur festival 1989.

zone which we will manage through a zonal coun cil to be made up
of ali the temple presidents and regional secret aries in the Zone.
I shall sit upon that committee as a member only.
                                                                            of 5 of the

, At the Mayapur festival 1987 our Australasian council will request
                  WG

that an additional Guru, to be named by the council, begin
preaching and initiating in the Zones

               6. Regarding the initiations at our festival in October, the zonal
council feels that they should proceed for the following reasons,

                      a) The full body of the GBC resolved that I would be free to
resume that duty on Oct. ] 1986. The Australasian leaders have
been preaching and encouraging on the basis of that
authorititive resolution. They feel that to change at this
point would cause extreme confusion to the new devotees
as well as to all of the initiated diciples. This in turn
would undoubtedly cause more disturbance to the zone and to
                         Srila Prabhupada's BBT remittances.

                      b) Some of the new devotees have heen waiting 18 months to 2
years being fully aware of my situations and knowing that
another Guru will be initiating in the zone. They are still
committed to taking Diksa from me.

In light of all the above conditions that we are proposing we genuinely
hope that as many GBC men as possible accept them and give me their
blessings to proceed with my Krishna consciousness in a peacefull mood.

                                                       ce of Srila Prabhupada,

                            OKOKY
                            mi.
                                                       Wy!
